HWC Coffee Card Game

HWC Coffee is a Malaysian specialty coffee chain. They made a card game which was given away for free if you bought coffee (and other stuff) worth more than a certain amount within a single transaction. It is encouraging to see this. I would love to have my game designs used in such projects. Zus Coffee had something like this just last year, a Sembang Raya card game. Something that promotes tabletop games in Malaysia is good for the tabletop game industry.

The box is small and it is a tuck box. There are many cards. The box is quite thick.

Some of the cards in the game.

All the rules are on these four cards, and they are only one one side of these cards. The other side of the cards are just the card backs. I realised this is just UNO rethemed. You have the numbers, the suits, the wilds, the draw two's and the draw four's. Also the reverses and the skips. So there is no actual game design done. It's just custom art and retheming. I guess this is a sensible thing to do. Make something people already know how to play. For people who like coffee, the retheme will be entertaining.

All the cards are coffee related.

Custom Blend is Wild. Double Shot and Double Double Shot are Draw Two and Draw Four respectively. Coffee Break is Skip. Stir Back is Reverse. Coffee Refill is something I don't remember seeing in UNO. You get to choose the next number to be played, and everyone else draws one card.

One problem I see is the card power descriptions are too small. I certainly have difficulty reading them, and I'm pretty sure younger people will better eyesight will have difficulties too, especially for the yellow cards.
